The risk is a recalibration of "normal" productivity that assumes universal AI competence. Workers who are slower to adopt AI, or who work in roles where AI provides less leverage, may find themselves reclassified as underperformers simply because the performance curve has shifted. Third, performance measurement systems must be rebuilt for an environment where human and AI contributions are blended. This requires pre-AI baselines, role-specific expectations, and transparent communication about how AI usage factors into evaluations. Managers need training to assess work that combines human judgment and AI augmentation, rather than treating all output as equivalent.

It revealed the gaps in how organizations manage change, communicate expectations, and build psychological safety. The challenge is not whether to use AI. The challenge is whether organizations can build the social and governance infrastructure to support it before the secrecy, anxiety, and baseline collapse become permanent features of the workplace.
